Sexual Violence is a social problem that we need to address everyday.
Until the age of 12, boys and girls are abused in a ratio of 1:6.
After the age of 12, girls and women are abused in a ratio of 1:3; boys and men are abused in a ration of 1:7.
In 87% of abuse cases the abuser is known to the survivor.
Approx. 65% of abuse cases took place when the victims were minors.
According to the Israeli Ministry of Industry, Trade and Labor, in 2012, 40% of women have reported incidents of sexual harassment at the workplace.
The JRCC has been fielding calls from survivors of rape, incest, and sexual abuse for over 30 years. In that time, the services available to the callers have expanded dramatically. Today, a caller to the free 24-hour hotline receives Crisis Intervention counseling from a trained volunteer and then an explanation of options for the next step if needed. The JRCC provides Support Groups not only to give survivors a chance to encounter other survivors, but also to empower these women through fellowship and therapy under the guidance of professionals. These groups are unique and might incorporate different types of therapy, such as yoga and art-therapy. Overseeing all sessions are two therapeutic personnel who also receive regular professional supervision and support. Moreover, whenever possible, the JRCC provides subsidized psychological therapy for a small number of women who find themselves desperate emotional and financial need and seek further treatment outside the Support Groups. Support groups are also available for family members of survivors, such as mothers of abused children, spouses, etc.
